Landscape format (23.5cm x 31cm). 129 numbered and dated b&w photographs, taken in the 1990s of mainly urban scenes in China. Captions in Japanese, with a moving afterword in English by Kitai, on his birth in Japanese occupied Manchuria in December 1944 and his parents’ subsequent return to Japan in 1945. Signed by Kitai to title page. His renown outside Japan has grown in recent years, and critics see him as a pioneering influence on Japanese photography of the 60s, including the Provoke movement.
